So, I'm back. I've survived washing dishes, doing some tidying in my room...and now I've got about another million things to do, including visiting a great uncle who just got diagnosed with cancer this week. Please pray for him. I think he is saved, but I'm not sure. Anyway, he's been pretty sick, and we're praying for him to be feeling well enough to go back home. Thanks!
On another note, I have a story for you this time! This is one that I had as a draft. I have another story written that I need to get ready for this blog, but I thought that for the first story I'd do more of an uplifting one. "Utter Failure" is more of a sad story to make you think.
Let me see if there is anything else I should say here. Oh, we have some snow! I love snow, partially because it means Winter is here in her white robes (plus, my birthday and Christmas are both in winter, so why would I NOT like winter?). I hope it snows more (and soon!!!) so that I can get out my cross-country skis and get out on a small flat field next to the park nearby.
My cookies turned out well for my meeting, where I made wreaths with some of my friends. As usual, we had an outrageously fun time. We played an awesomely wonderful game called "Mafia". I actually was the Mafia once, and killed lots of my friends. Whew...thinking like a criminal is scary! I couldn't kill the most suspicious accuser, because that might arise suspicion. I ended up being executed, my defence being "I hope that you all die horrible deaths, too," and my final words being, "I STILL hope that you all die horrible deaths!" The narrators were funny. I'm so blessed with wonderful friends (if they are slightly crazy when we are having fun!).
Oh, I think that there might be one last cookie left over. You'd better hurry if you want it! (Just joking!!!!).
Now, onto the brief foreword about my story, and then...the story.
Well, this is just a short little story that popped into my head and fingers. :D It isn't awesome or wonderful, but it does hold a lesson that I've learned many times over-if your plans don't work out, move on to the next plans. Life doesn't turn out perfect, but it can still be enjoyable. So, onto the story of Sarah, a girl who is needing some practice for an upcoming jump rope competition, and depressed about something….
Let it Rain!
The rain was pounding down in heat, sweeping sheets over the road. Twelve year old Sarah glared at the down pour from her window. Great. Just great. Now she wouldn't be able to go out side and practice her jump rope routine. And that contest was in two days! She couldn't let Gabrielle Joshua beat her again. No siree! Gabrielle would be left far behind when Sarah Dashwood's name was called at the contest. Her routine would be quick, precise, and perfect. Well, it would be if it stopped raining and she could go outside to practice. But the sky showed no sign of letting up on the storm clouds. Instead, to Sarah's disgust, a low rumble of thunder growled. A flash of lightning followed, brightening the horizon with it's needle-like appearance.
"How are you, Sparkle?" Sarah looked up, her face gloomy, despite the uplifting nickname Grandma had given to her.
"Grandma, it's raining AGAIN! How can I ever get better than that old Gabrielle if it keeps raining? Mom won't let me practice inside-she's afraid I'd break something."
"Well, you have broken some stuff in the past. Once you get hopping in a small space, disaster seems to follow, Sarah."
"Yeah." Sarah dismally fingered her jump rope. If only her family could afford a garage. Her best friend, Becky Wilson, was on the jump rope team as well, and she could practice any time she wanted in her family's garage. Becky would let Sarah practice in their garage, but going over to Becky's in this rain would be a crazy attempt. The fifteen minute walk would have her soaked, and Mom and Dad had taken the car to a big business meeting they had to attend about their hard ware store, after leaving Grandma to babysit. Practice today looked hopeless.
"You want to make some juice?" Grandma asked. Sarah looked up and grinned. Grandma knew what made her smile, and turning fruits and veggies into delicious juices was one of her favourite ways to spend time with Grandma.
After an hour of juicing nearly every fruit and vegetable in the house, the rain was still rattling in the rain gutters and streaming into ditches. The front yard's ditch was beginning to look like a stream. Sarah sipped her glass of raspberry, apple, and watermelon juice, and prayed that the rain would stop soon.
"Darlin', I have an idea!" Grandma was quickly leafing through the phone book.
"What, Grandma?"
"A taxi! We'll get us a taxi, and go to the community centre! They have sports stuff all over there, and plenty of room for you to practice your routine, Sparkle!"
"That's a great idea, Grandma!" Sarah jumped up and twirled around excitedly, swinging her jump rope and barely missing hitting her glass of juice to the floor.
"Careful, darlin'!"
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Grandma dialled the number for a taxi, and soon she and Sarah were at the community centre.
"One, two, three, four, double under…" Sarah counted as she practiced. Grandma sat on a chair nearby, reading a historical novel.
Sarah looked out the huge windows at the grey rain pouring outside, but this time she didn't frown. She had learned another wise lesson from Grandma-if your first plans don't turn out well, think about what your next plan should be. Sarah grinned at the raindrops.
"Let it rain!"
The End!
So, that's it for that story. Just a little thing that jumped into my mind (literally???). I hope you enjoyed it! I'll have to get a horse story up soon. I might just have some ideas....!!!! :D
God bless, folks! Come by again soon!
