The mosaic above is just really nice, so I wanted to share it!
Here we are-the last scene of "Cut and Polished". Next project on this site will be trying to get it all onto the "Read Away" page! And then into a file on the computer...I'm not done by the long shot!
May God bless you with the message He gave me for this play!
Scene Six:
(Setting: James' living room. Topaz is sitting in wheelchair, crying. A Bible is on nearby table.
Characters: Topaz, James)
Topaz: (crying) What is the purpose of all this pain, suffering, and disability? I'll never walk again. I'll never see my mother again! (sighs; wipes eyes) Uncle James keeps saying I'll see her in heaven. He also says I'll walk, even run, there. But I've lost hope! And to loose hope is the darkest place you'll ever be! I have no hope God is real, no hope that I can go to heaven. My faith in God and His love has been shaken so hard that it feels dizzy...and dead. Dead. (begins to sob) God, if You're there, lift me up. Show me the light, before I go blind. Give me a place to stand before I fall. Give me...(looks at Bible; reaches and picks up Bible; holds Bible up; sobs) God, give me faith! (sets Bible down wearily; covers face with hands)
James: (calls from offstage right; excitedly) Topaz?
Topaz: (wipes face; sits up straight; struggling but trying to hide her struggle) Yes?
James: (enters on right; hands behind back) I've got a...are you okay, Paz?
Topaz: (looks away) Me? Oh, yes. Of course.
James: Are you sure?
Topaz: (testily) Yes. I'm fine.
James: (warily) All right. (remembering) Oh, I've got a surprise for you.
Topaz: (disinterested) What?
James: (holds out topaz necklace; Topaz gasps) Here.
Topaz: For me? (James nods; Topaz takes necklace) It is beautiful! How did you do it?
James: Oh, a bit of cut and polish.
Topaz: It is gorgeous.
James: You know, it was the stone's being cut and polished that made it so beautiful. (pauses) And that's what God is doing in your life. He...He wants to use this pain and trouble, not to hurt you, but to make you all the more precious and beautiful to Him. God says in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." He wants you to be His precious jewel.
Topaz: (covers face with hands) I see it now.
James: (motions to necklace) Want to put it on? (Topaz nods) I'll help you. (Topaz wipes her eyes and hands him necklace, and James attaches it around her neck) Want me to leave you for a bit? (Topaz nods) Okay. Just call if you'd anything. (Topaz nods again; James exits on right)
Topaz: (silently picks up Bible; looks upward; reverently) God, You gave me back my faith. Thank You. And I will try to be a sparkling gem for You. Your cuts and polishes will not be wasted on me. I'll trust You...forever! (curtains close; end of scene six, and end of play)
Well, what did you think about this play? Would you like to see more plays like this? Do you have an idea that you think would make a nice play, that you'd like to read, not write? Let me know!
I'm thinking of doing a voice recording of this play. I would have to use programming to change my voice a bit for male parts, but it is do-able!
I'd best go! May God bless you all!
Love,
Indi
