Hi! I'm so glad that someone is reading this!

Let's really plunge into some ideas! Have you ever pondered what it would be like being swallowed by a whale? I have a feeling that it would not be fun. Jonah did not seem to like his special transportational device. That might be an interesting subject to dive into! Bible characters are fun to work from. Also, you could come up with your own characters off of a Bible character. What would the story be of Josephine, a modern-day, female Joseph? What would happen to a Job living now (cancer, divorced by wife, rebellious kids, etc.)? I believe that his name would be mispronounced! Do you know someone like Dorcas (also called Tabitha in the Bible)-a woman who is constantly toiling for God and serving her fellow Christians, but who then runs into difficulty? She doesn't have to die-maybe have the character wondering if all that service for God was worth it... What does a butterfly bring to memory for you? Hope? Joy? Freedom? Choose an emotion, and save it for the next lesson! You may name your play "A Message on Wings" or "A Butterfly's Song". What is your favourite Bible verse? Could it be your inspiration? John 3:16 makes a great evangelistic play inspiration-the possibilities are endless for that one verse! I love having a conversion in my plays-I like to have someone be converted, either being saved or learning a new fact. Isaiah 40:29-31 would also be a great choice! Doing a play on a certain culture may be hard (if it is not your own), but you could do a historical play (I desire to write a historical Christmas play this summer!). Think about a globe, or a timeline, and see what you can come up with! I wrote a play about gypsies, and it was a blast! Now, you could also write a play about a circus or fair! That could be quite interesting and fun! Never forget-research is a necessity for most writing project. Do not choose a subject that you will bored of within several hours. Choose a subject that will provide constant interest. Note: You may not want to put a pony part into a play-it could be hard to produce without a very special stage and a talented equine! What about family? Do you have funny moments that you would like to relive? Or can you make up a family with problems that they need to solve-or perhaps are having the adventure of a lifetime?! Family is very special. Think about what you could do in this area! (Adorable photo!) Careers... I love writing about my police force! Careers have a wide spectrum of choice. I'm sure that you've heard this question before-"What do you want to be when you grow up?" Think about it-what have you said in the past, what would you say now, what would be a job that you think is cool? Has the inspiration bug bitten yet? Oh, what a beautiful photo! Note that music clef in that background. Maybe try what the picture suggests-have a snack and listen to some music. You may receive inspiration from the words. Wondering at the excessive amount of photos? I'm trying to present to you a range of emotions. Look at each photo and try to analyze the emotions evident in each. Some may be easy, others more difficult. As a writer, emotion fascinates me. I like to figure out how those around me feel. You may not even have an inkling about your main character (if you do, hold that idea! We get to them in a bit!), but you may come across an emotion that they are dealing with. In my play "Runaway", my character Rabakah will be acting from fear, and Patrick will be acting from confusion, annoyance, and uncertainty as he struggles with the issue of faith. In my play "One Lost Lamb" my character Jennifer deals with her emotions of confusion and anger as she deals with mourning. Some emotions are a mix of many-have you ever felt a million emotions in a minute? Well, I have given you a smattering of many places to find inspiration. Make a list, think about it, dream about it, and then choose an idea! Just make sure of one thing-that you like your idea! Those last two photos came up when I typed in "inspiration"" into the free photos available for my posts. They certainly are beautiful!
I certainly hope that this post has been helpful to any of you experiencing writer's block at this early stage. I've enjoyed thinking about all the places that I find inspiration and sharing them with you through photos and questions! :D I hope to see you all out on Saturday for the second post of the "Playing Around" series! God bless you with inspiration! Indi Phil. 4:4 Hi, everyone!
Okay. Remember that first post, when I said I'd teach you how to write a play? Well, I'm going to do it, next week. So gather up lots of paper, pens and pencils, and patience for this Saturday, when the first post in the series will appear on the blog! Also, let your friends know! Send the news around, so that anyone who wants to write a play will be able to join in! Thanks, and I'll see you on Saturday! God bless! Indi Raine Philippians 4:4 |
